STRATEGIES & KEY INITIATIVES
Healthcare Training Program
The Patient Care Associate training program was created in collaboration with the city’s biggest three healthcare systems, Detroit Medical Center, Henry Ford Health System and St. John Providence to train Detroiters for this in-demand role. This is just one example of a model of Employer-Led training we are developing across our five core industries.
Focus: HOPE and Oakland University School of Nursing were selected through a competitive bid process and worked alongside the hospital providers to develop the curriculum for the training. The result of this employer-led approach to training resulted in positive outcomes for participants.
I’ve always had a passion for medicine and for healthcare, so when I found out they did have this program I was very thrilled. We learned about medical terminology, we got introduced to the EKG. I was actually in clinicals and I got a call from Henry Ford Hospital, and I am so thrilled to be there working in the Oncology Department. They have really changed my life and my kids’ life because now I don’t have a job, I have a career, and it’s something that I can definitely grow in.
